Quilt Show Product Review

We all know, as beautiful as the quilts are, we also go for the vendors....what's new and trendy.
What do I need that I didn't know I needed.

Just a few days prior, I'd mentioned to my new Quilty BFF that I needed a new iron.  I'm currently using an Oliso.

It's nice, the "lifting up" function is great.  But it no longer steams.  This iron was passed down to me after my Quilting Auntie Nyla passed by her DH.  I considered replacing it, but the price tag is a deterrent.

Enter the Power Steam Pro.  It's not an iron but a steamer.  No metal parts, the sole plate doesn't even get hot.

Very light weight.  Not sure it would totally replace the iron, though.

Did do a nice job with this wrinkly tee shirt, and in short order.

De-wrinkled fast and easy.  Click HERE for more details.

Second purchase of the day was a re-usable Lint Roller, Sticky Roller.

Of course, the demonstration made it look like a miracle worker, picking up even coins.

At home it wasn't quite that wonderful, but I can't complain too much.  I tested it on a really (really) dirty car floor mat.

After two passes, washing the roller in between following the directions, it did a respectable job.  Would a vacuum been easier?  Yes, if you have the right kind of vacuum.  If not...it works.  (Now, I need to go do the passenger side mat.) Click HERE for more details.

The last thing I probably would have purchased if they had not run out of supplies were these sewing machine lights.
Lumitask Machine lights.  Click HERE for the website.

This model has two lights sources; one goes next to the machine needle and the second light goes in the throat area, illuminating the tunnel.

I was impressed with the brightness and there is no shadow!
The down side--One more thing that that needs to be plugged in.
I don't suppose you can avoid that, however, with any after-market add-on.

The Paducah Quilt show was everything you would want a Quilt Show to be:  Beautiful quilts, vendors with cool stuff and even fair food.  And, now that I live here I can go every year!

Join me next year!  I have a fold-out bed.

Quilt Week 2022 - Day 2

Best of Show - Crazy Four Ewe by Janet Stone.

The prize was $20,000 If the artist accepts the prize, the quilt stays in Paducah at the Quilt Museum.  So, I guess it is more of a purchase....still, the Quilt Museum isn't offering ME any money for one of my quilts....just sayin.  She is a very talented lady.

This is the 3rd time Janet Stone has won Best of Show at the Paducah Quilt Show.  Watch her interview HERE.  (Don't skip it....the close up shots of the quilt are worth the 8 minutes to watch.)

A picture can NEVER do this creation justice.  The detail was amazing.  It took her nine months to complete....while working a full-time job and she was still married at the end.  Apparently her DH (Dear Husband) is her biggest fan.

This is the back.  A totally different experience.

So, I suppose there is no whining and complaining about working full time and then being too tired to sew in the evenings...
If Janet can do it, so can I!

My new quilting friend in Paducah, Carolyn.

My hair is messy because we had just come in from outside
where it was very windy.

The Paducah Quilt Show through the years.
This was the first time I'd attended the Paducah Quilt Show since my mom and my Auntie passed.
I wish they were still here....

Quilt Week 2022

 IT'S HERE....IT'S NOW!

Honesty is the best policy, so I must admit....I did not even care about quilt week until yesterday.

Yesterday my new KY friend, Carolyn, and I went to opening day of Quilt Week.  It was inspiring!

Here are just a few examples of the amazing quilts in this year's show.

This one was my favorite...should have been Best of Show, in my opinion.

The pictures can never do them justice.

I love quilts that tell a story.

Quilt Show Take-Aways

Vendor Hall
It really did look like this.

I went to the show knowing I'd find gobbs and gobbs of fun, wonderful quilt stuff.  And, I was not disappointed.  But, I also had a budget (my money tree has not started producing yet.)  My strategy was to visit the booths, and yes we do look in every one...mostly, and mark down on the map what I liked and the booth number where it was found.  It actually worked pretty well.

I only came away with two things. But, I still managed to go over my budget. (sad face goes here)

The Oregon wall hanging pattern speaks for itself.  As I am a Portland girl, I just could not pass it up.

Before I talk about my other purchase,
I need to give you a bit of background.

The first two quilts I ever made were QAYG **.  One, a simple 4-patch and the other  a BOM* from Cool Cottons in Portland, Oregon.  Back then I knew so little about quilting that when the group was talking about sashing I thought they were saying slashing!   I thought that was a bit strange, but oh well ...  the group did eventually correct me. Imagine my embarrassment.

I  did not like the finished result of QAYG at all. They looked sloppy and wonky.  I've never done one since.  But, I did not think I would EVER pay to have someone else quilt them, either...too expensive.  That, of course, changed because if you don't QAYG and you don't send them out the only thing left is to tie them.  I have tied a few....functional but not as pretty as quilting. (You could quilt them yourself on your domestic machine...I learned a whole new vocabulary quilting them myself.)

Simple 4 patch for my son.
QAYG

BOM that I gave to my friend, Peggy.

Enter Mr. Flynn.  At another quilt show (I think it was Paducah)
I met Mr Flynn and purchased the Flynn Method for free motion quilting.

Think of it as the poor-woman's answer to a sit-down quilter, like the Tin Lizzie or the Handi Quilter Sweet 16.

It looked so easy!  I was so motivated!  It is still in the box 10 years later!!!

Every show I attend I stop and talk to Mr. Flynn, as I did this year.  I promised him THIS year, I would take it out of the box.  And I will keep my promise.

Now, back to the present time:  as we were perusing the vendor booths (I'd only purchased one item so far and feeling pretty proud of myself)  I happened on a booth with a sign "THIS METHOD FOR QAYG WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE."   Being the smart-aleck that I am, I scoffed.  But, I gave her a few minutes of my time.

IT DID CHANGE MY LIFE....AND TOOK ME OVER MY BUDGET! I bought her kit.

All the Instructions
All The Tools

I could not possibly describe how this works, so here is a link to the website with videos on how this works.
Here is a link to a very short  demo video.

The process in a nut shell.
The last circle is the finished sashing.

The result is very attractive, looks really easy and I  think I'm going to liked it very much.

One more post tomorrow to talk about some Honorable Mentions.
Things I would have purchased if I hadn't already run out of money.

Ciao.
