Satisfaction

Finishing up projects is so satisfying. 

Gifting a completed project is very satisfying.

Receiving a hand-written Thank You is VERY satisfying.

I've had a satisfying week.

Oregon Duck Quilt is quilted and bound.

Faith, my LAQ, chose a football pattern.

The quilt is reversible.

I wanted the g-son to have the option of using it as a lap quilt, or hanging it on his wall, so I added a sleeve.  At the suggestion of Miss Kate, I did not tack down the bottom of the sleeve.  By not tacking down the sleeve, the quilt becomes reversible and he can hang either side out!

A big shout out and Thank You to Miss Charlotte-the-Tall for the fun "Cash" fabric!

Judging from the look on his face, The Oregon Duck was a big hit!

And, as predicted, mini g-son wants one,too.  His favorite team is the Cleveland Browns.

(Of course, little one, but not this year.)

Finally:  Also this week, Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, Oregon sent a very nice, hand-written note for all the kitty beds and kitty masks.  That was a nice surprise! Sending notes in the mail, and particularly Thank You notes, is a lost art.  Let's bring it back!  Put a smile on someone's face, send them a note.

I Miss My Mom

 Today would be my mom's 86th birthday ... she has been gone nearly 3 years.

Of course, over the years between my Quilting-Aunt Nyla and myself, she was gifted a fair number of quilts.

This Angels Around Us quilt pieced by my Quilting Auntie was her absolute favorite.  It was passed down to me when mom graduated to heaven.

My Auntie taught me to always label my quilts.

Miss you, mom.

Three Cheers to the Birthday Boy

I can hardly believe 14 years have flown by... a few more years and he will fly away into a life of his own, all grown up.

 

 

I did manage to get the Oregon Duck lap quilt finished, including preparing the back, but not in time for gifting.

It is off to the LAQ today.  She is going to quilt footballs into the quilt.

 

I found this great football panel from the University of Oregon. 

His school district is not going to meet physically until at least November.  He is a bit bummed about that.  

 

I'm hoping this lap quilt will cheer him up and keep his eye on his goal of playing football for U of O.

Not sure when the LAQ will return this.... it will be in her queue. 

 

 

 

In the mean time I have  place-holder gifts.

Patiently Waiting

Well, maybe not so patiently.....

I ordered University of Oregon fabric for the back of the Oregon Duck quilt.... now I wait...what to do, what to do....

To stay out of trouble, I need to amuse myself while I wait.

So, I dug out some kitty-print fabric scraps and am making masks for Cat Adoption Team.

 

The CAT volunteers could wear them.
They could sell them in their little shop.
They could give them away with each adoption....fun!

And They Lived Happily Ever After

A number of years ago my parents renewed their wedding vows.

Well, ,that's how I feel about Jack (the ripper) right now.  

Like we've just renewed our vows...

There was A LOT of UN-stitching happening 

with this Oregon Duck quilt.

The directions for these Counted Quilts is  very different than any quilt I've ever made and Jack and I spent  A-LOT of quality time together during the assembly process.

 

 

I did not assemble this quilt according to pattern directions, i.e., construct one column at a time and then sew all the columns together.  I assembled sections, starting at the top with the center section, then adding the sections to the left and to the right, moving down the quilt.  The final pieces were the two outside columns.  It did come together fairly easily and quickly. 

I was kind-of amazed.

 

I ordered some University of Oregon fabric from Etsy for the backing.  Once that arrives it will be ready for the LAQ.

 

 

The verdict:  Would I make another quilt using this method?  I can't say I LOVED it (I really love paper piecing.)  But now that I've made one and I have an idea of the process, I would do another.  

(I have a feeling when the littlest babe sees this one he will want one also.)

Just when you thought it was safe to put all the mask-making paraphernalia away .....  the daughter asks for more.

It does look like masks will be a must have accessory in our wardrobe for a long time to come.  Ana wanted a variety.  And, truth be told, I could use a variety, myself...and the Babes, should they ever go back to school.

I decided to try a new pattern, and I must say I really like it.

I like her choice of fabric, too....

This style seems roomier than the pleat-style masks I've made.  It is easier to breath when doing my power walking in the morning with Miss Kate.

The little adjusters on the ear loops can be purchased on Amazon.  It does take an engineer's degree to figure out exactly how to get the little tabs on the elastic .... just sayin, the directions are not that clear.  Click HERE for the link to Amazon.

Oregon Duck Update

As you know, the Oregon Duck lap quilt for Number One G-Son is underway.  And as you also know by now, it is very challenging.  The directions are, shall we say, different.

Well, I reached out to the author, Lisa Muilenburg at Countedquilts.com at the suggestion of sister Needler, Miss Kate.

Lisa was very gracious and sent a link to instructional videos on YouTube.  I thought I'd pass the link along.

I learned a couple of lessons.

1) Don't be afraid to contact the pattern author with questions, concerns or conundrums.  

AND

2) Aren't quilt folk just the nicest people?  

Maybe the answer to all the current unrest around the country is to get everyone quilting!  Think about it!  It would fix the lagging economy spending all those quilt dollars, put smiles on everyone's face (unless you are having a date with Jack) and this winter no one will be cold!  Win, Win, Win.
