Feels So Good

When you are away from the things you love for far too long....it almost feels like starting over...

You might even have to get the manual out to remember how to thread the thing!

Believe it or not, even though actual sewing has not been happening, collecting sewing projects has been happening.

Two wall-hanging panels later:  One for the music room (corner) and one for the Studio.

It looks so good in this corner, even though it's not yet quilted and bound. Where it was actually purchased escapes me ...
it was before the big move (almost two months ago, now!!!)  and I've slept since then, so I cannot remember.

LOVE, Love, love this.

Machine Maiden

I just could NOT help myself.  Machine Maiden.  Isn't she lovely and funky?
It's that Steam Punk style.  You'll find the whole pattern and a kit at eQuilter.com.  HERE

And now to some actual sewing; started and almost completed this week are placemats for my new table.

People all across the nation are on the move, it seems.  (One good thing Covid gave us was the ability to work from anywhere.)  This wonderful table was purchased from a family moving to Indianapolis.
I have not had a proper dining table in many-a-year...almost makes me feel like a grownup.

The glass top just screamed for some pretty placemats.

Not Yet Quilted and Bound - the goal is to have them all done by the end of this week.

The pattern is Charming Star from Donna Jordan. Click HERE for  the FREE pattern and click  HERE for the tutorial on YouTube.

The fabric line I chose was Best of Morris by Moda.
The coordinating fabric is from the same line.

And that wraps up the month from the little-house-in-the-tornado-watch zone
(we've had some crazy weather.)

Three Finishes and a Start

It feels like the process of getting from there to here has taken forever...all the packing, traveling and unpacking...my entire daily routine was abruptly halted and I have felt somewhat adrift.  But now....

All the moving is done   ....

Most of the unpacking is done ...
(I do have one more small box of trinkets.)

Birthday celebrations are done and I'm back in Kentucky ....

Leaving So. Cal. yesterday, it did feel like I was going home.

So, now it is time to really begin my life...with a daily routine and everything.

Have not yet found a church--did join the gym--quilting group is in the works--my new ukulele teacher is Marshal Dillon.
(I am not making that up.)

Time Marches On

Now when I come back to California it is as a guest at my own party!

It was all Perfect.  The perfect setting, with the perfect people, the perfect food and goodies.
My D-I-L and son did a perfect job putting it all together (and some help from my Bestie, Peggy.)

Various people that I love.

Rosaria (In the red...Tracy's mom) made all the food and it was delicious, as usual.

For most of the day, the older kids were at sports events.

But when they all came home, it was food and cake all over again!

My D-I-L did discover, late on party day after all the guests
had gone home, that she spelled my name wrong.
She was embarrassed, but I had a good laugh.

My son's sense of humor. (Thank you, honey.)

It was a marvelous day!

P.S.  The nice part of living in another state now is I had two parties....Thank you Sister and B-I-L.

Celebrating my Birthday in KY the week before.

Finally, Light At The End of The Tunnel

After a month in Kentucky, I'm still spending major dollars at Lowe's, Menards and Walmart, but as the days go by I can see REAL progress.

This was my sewing studio shortly after moving in:

And, finally here is my studio today, pictures from three corners of the room:

Everything pretty much has a home, although I imagine I'll be moving things around as I get back into sewing.

The sewing table is temporary (borrowed from my sister).

I've ordered a new desk for my office area and the office desk will get passed down to the studio.

The dresser above will be a custom iron surface.

Watch this video by Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts on making a custom iron surface.  HERE

I've ordered a custom cutting mat for the chest on the far wall.

This chest is a work bench for the garage.  I bought it at Costco about 20 years ago.  It has always been part of my sewing.
It is 18" wide.  Cutting mats are generally wider so I went on line and found MyBinding.com.

MyBinding is not specifically quilting related but the lady I spoke with said a lot of quilters order from them.

I'll start sewing tomorrow...altering some shirts for my dad....

Dad's recent 91st birthday celebrated with my Kentucky family.
